v Attraction for Industrial Development v
While Rajasthan has a low industrial base at present, it has certain
basic advantages. It has a rich and varied mineral base and large livestock resources. The
Rajasthan Canal offers potential for commercial farming and agro based industries. The
State has a conducive labour environment and a stable law and order situation. Its people
have a vast variety of traditional skills which can be harnessed to boost the nation's
exports. At the same time it has an adequate institutional set-up for imparting training
in skills required by the modern industrial enterprises. Its proximity to Delhi, the focal
point of all trading activity in the northern region, provides tremendous potential for
any manufacturing activity in the State. Industrial towns in Rajasthan are directly linked
with many towns in Punjab and Haryana with their booming markets as also with important
industrial towns in Gujarat and Maharashtra. As such the State is strategically located to
cater to both the Northern and the Western markets. With its numerous forts, palaces,
museums and natural attractions, Rajasthan also offers significant potential for
investments in tourism and related service industries. Finally, the State Government is
committed to accelerating the pace of industrialization in the State and has recently been
demonstrating this commitment in various ways like improving the package of incentives
offered to entrepreneurs, streamlining procedures, offering single window services etc.
